We proudly offer this beautiful and functional 1904 to 1915 Computing Scale Co., Dayton, Ohio set of country store barrel scales. We believe this is a style 144, and would carry patents from Sept. 3, 1895; Reissued Patent Apr. 28, 1896; and design Patents dated Jan. 11, 1898, Apr. 24, 1900. May 28, 1901. June 18, 1901. May 19, 1903. and Dec. 6, 1904. In 1891. Our example appears all original and even has the Original end cap mirrors, and the Impossible to find original milk glass plate!! There is 1 crack in the crown that cannot even be seen from the front, and is eminently reparable. Edward Canby and Orange O. Ozias, two businessmen from Dayton, Ohio, purchased the patents for the newly invented computing scale and incorporated the Computing Scale Company for the production of commercial scales. The Computing Scale Company manufactured the first computing scale in 1891, and continued to do business until 1911 when it became part of the Computing Tabulating Recording Corp. However, by legend, the name Computing Scale Co. was still used by CTR until 1915, or the materials shortages created by WW I, thereby validating the age of the scale. Eventually, CTR became part of IBM. VG WORKING Antq cond, tarnish, wear, crack in crown
